The EBAN Initiative

Clayton County, GA

OVERVIEW

Leveraging our extensive background in developing innovative and impactful programs for young men and boys of color, CHS developed a multi-dimensional adolescent health and youth development program that we call the Eban Initiative. Building on our Culturally Responsive Developmental Relationships Model (CRDR), Eban (the Adinkran symbol for fence) uses a mentoring framework supported by CRDR as a vehicle to teach male responsibility and healthy life choices.

Aligning Community Systems (ACS)

Macon, GA

Augusta, GA

OVERVIEW

CHS has taken our model on the road and is currently supporting initiatives in Macon and Augusta Georgia. In both counties, our partners are seeking to promote optimal adolescent health for vulnerable youth. In Augusta, the Augusta Campaign for Adolescent Responsibility and Equity (CARES) project led by the Augusta Partnership for Children (APC), brings together stakeholders from multiple sectors to develop and execute a plan that promotes optimal adolescent health. Similarly, CHS has partnered with the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential (GCAPP) to engage stakeholders in the Macon community in support of the Aligning Community Systems for Optimal Adolescent Health (ACSOAH) project. In both instances, CHS worked in community to develop strategies tailored to the expressed needs of that community.

Minority Youth Engagement in Sports

OVERVIEW

Minority youth participation in structured sports is significantly lower than other races. Physical activity and nutrition are critical components of both physical and mental health. CHS has partnered with the Carrie Steele Pitts Home (CSPH), an institution with over 130+ years of experience providing the highest quality health and youth development support to vulnerable youth in Atlanta, to develop and implement the CSPH Youth Engagement in Sports (YES) Initiative. Our consultants helped CSPH to develop a research approach and model to drive this Office of Women’s Health funded research project and we continue to persevere and innovate through difficult times.

Trauma & Resilience Network

Clayton, GA

OVERVIEW

Adverse childhood experiences (ACES) have a tremendous impact on individual and community health. The recognition that racism is [in fact] traumatic and, that exposure to ongoing racism is a clear barrier to healthy development, has further elucidated the need for communitywide ACES prevention efforts. CHS, has partnered with Resilient Georgia to build a community coalition in Clayton County whose purpose is to raise awareness of (and ultimately prevent) ACES in the Clayton County community. By engaging stakeholders from all sectors and celebrating resilience, our communities begin the process of healing.
